CHALLENGES: A primary school for 500 students is substantial for its intended purpose. When the goal is to design a pleasant, socially, pedagogically, and functionally sound environment, the functional concept becomes crucial. On the other hand, essential requirements also include efficient space utilization and cost-effective and technically feasible construction.

SOLUTIONS: The school’s teaching spaces are divided into six clusters, each of which contains spaces for three teaching groups. Each cluster has its own cluster lobby, storage, and restroom facilities. Other cluster spaces, such as small group rooms, are shared by the groups. Each cluster is connected to subject-specific teaching spaces, student support services, and the library located within the building through shared lobby areas. The gymnasium and other school facilities also serve the residents of the neighborhood outside of school hours. The building’s diverse spatial scales support socially and pedagogically appropriate activities.
